Rainbows

There’s Something In Rainbows For Every Girl

Rainbows welcomes all girls from 4 to 7 years old for play, learning and tons of fun in a colourful, safe space. She’ll laugh, sing and make a happy mess (and help clear it up!) as she chooses her way through our programme of activities. She’ll have plenty of magic moments: she might become a time traveller, an animal tracker, a pop singer, a stargazer. It’s a wonderful world of adventure, week after week, just for her.

What do girls do in Rainbows?

Rainbows follow our programme designed to engage and educate in a safe girl only space. In unit meetings, Rainbows do fun activities, play games and earn “skills builder” badges, all while being supported by our trained volunteers.

Your child could earn badges with her unit in themes such as camping, communication and first aid. If she wants to take guiding home, there’s lots of fun and badges to do in between unit meetings, like the book lover badge, construction badge and helper badge. There’s a badge for everyone and your daughter will love earning these through her Rainbows journey!

Discover all the badges Rainbows can earn.

Your child could discover all this, as well as going to events planned locally and by her unit.

Cleveland county Rainbows have camped in a circus tent, had a sleepover at an aquarium, met a local Lord, visited fire stations, had fun at theme parks, visited energy plants, enjoyed music lessons and so much more. The list of incredible adventures your child could have with Rainbows is endless!

Check out our Rainbows photo gallery for a look at what your child could get up to with Girlguiding within Cleveland county.

What do Rainbows wear?

We encourage members to wear a uniform to show they’re part of the Girlguiding family. Rainbows wear a top and a pair of bottoms, many of our Rainbows choose to wear a hoodie as well!

Badges can be attached to her uniform – the promise badge, which she’ll get after making her Rainbow promise, should be on the left-hand side and all other badges can be attached where she chooses or if they prefer on a bright red sash!

What’s after Rainbows?

After Rainbows, they can move onto Brownies, our section for girls aged 7-10, for nonstop fun, learning and adventure.

How much does Rainbows cost?

At Girlguiding we do our best to ensure our units are accessible to all girls.

Each young member will be asked to pay a subscription fee to their unit.  The amount and frequency will vary, so some units will ask for subscriptions termly, others may have the option to pay weekly. Unit Leaders are always happy to find ways to help you with this!

These fees are used to provide the girls with the fun and adventurous activities offered by Girlguiding.

Sometimes there may be additional charges for trips and residentials.  This will be decided by the unit leader depending on the cost of the trip.

Girls take what they do in guiding with them as they grow up. Everything from working in a team, to taking the lead, to speaking out on issues they care about. It helps them develop the skills and confidence to become the young women they want to be. ’
